Compact Home Dehumidifier with Air Purifier

Compact Home Dehumidifier with Air Purifier

This project combines a simple dehumidifier and air purifier in a compact unit that uses the natural movement of air (warm air rising, cool air sinking) to maximize efficiency. The housing can be 3D printed or built from common materials, and the device uses household silica gel and a small fan with a basic air filter.

Intermediate 3 hours $30
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Design or find a 3D printable housing that has an air inlet at the bottom and outlet at the top to take advantage of warm air rising.
2. If 3D printing, print the parts and sand any rough edges; if using cardboard/plastic sheets, cut and assemble a box with similar airflow design.
3. Cut a piece of HEPA or activated carbon filter to fit the air outlet side.
4. Fill a breathable fabric pouch with silica gel beads or packets and seal it securely.
5. Place the silica gel pouch inside the housing near the air inlet (bottom), where cool air enters.
6. Mount the USB fan at the outlet (top) to draw air through the silica gel and filter.
7. Attach the filter to the outlet side, securing it with double-sided tape or glue.
8. Connect the fan to the USB power source.
9. Test airflow to ensure it moves from bottom (air inlet) through silica gel, then through the filter and out the top.
10. Optionally, monitor humidity and temperature to observe performance.
11. Replace or recharge silica gel as needed to maintain dehumidifying effect.
