Ikea Hol Sidetable Dog House with Decorative Accents

Transform an Ikea Hol sidetable into a charming dog house perfect for good weather. This project retains the sidetable's original holes, adds cutout windows and a door, and decorates with painted shutters, flower boxes, and a personalized name tag with swingcolor Kräutergrün and dark brown and white accents.

Intermediate 6 hours $50
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Ikea Hol sidetable by sanding all surfaces to remove roughness.
2. Using a pencil, mark the shapes and positions for the cutout windows and door on the sidetable sides.
3. Carefully cut out the windows and door with a jigsaw or handsaw, keeping the original holes intact.
4. Sand the edges of the cutouts to smooth any roughness.
5. Construct small wooden shutters slightly larger than the windows, attach with small hinges to the sidetable sides.
6. Paint the sidetable in Kräutergrün (swingcolor) using outdoor acrylic paint; apply 2 coats allowing drying time between.
7. Paint the shutters dark brown and add white accents such as borders or decorative lines.
8. Attach small flower boxes below the windows using screws or wood glue; fill with artificial flowers or small potted plants.
9. Create a name tag from a small wooden plaque; paint it Kräutergrün with dark brown or white lettering using stencils or freehand.
10. Attach a string or small chain to the name tag and hang it on the front or side of the dog house.
11. Apply a clear outdoor sealant spray over all painted surfaces to protect against weather.
12. Allow the dog house to dry completely before placing your pet inside.
13. Optional: add cushions or blankets inside for comfort.
