1. Measure and cut the main wooden board to 12 inches long and 6 inches wide. This will be the base of your book holder.
2. Sand all edges and surfaces with 120 grit sandpaper, then finish with 220 grit for a smooth surface.
3. Cut a small wooden block to 3" x 3" x 0.5" to serve as the photo frame base.
4. On the wooden block, create a shallow recess about 2.75" x 2.75" and 0.125" deep using a chisel or router, to hold the laser-engraved photo.
5. Cut a piece of thin plywood or clear acrylic slightly larger than the recess to cover and protect the photo.
6. Sand the edges of the photo frame block and the cover piece.
7. Glue the laser-engraved photo into the recess, then glue the cover piece on top. Clamp and allow to dry.
8. Attach the photo frame block to one side of the main board about 1 inch from the edge using wood glue. Clamp and let dry.
9. Cut a wooden dowel or strip about 12" long and 0.5" tall to act as the book holder edge; glue it along the opposite long edge of the base board. This will keep the book pages from sliding.
10. On the base board between the photo frame and the dowel edge, measure and cut a shallow groove or small slot (about 4" long, 0.5" wide, and 0.25" deep) to hold accessories like a pen, glasses, or a slim mug.
11. Sand any rough edges in the groove.
12. Optionally stain or paint the entire piece as desired, then apply a clear varnish or sealant for protection.
13. Attach felt pads to the bottom corners to protect surfaces.
14. Allow all finishes to dry completely before use.
15. To use, place the book on the base with its pages resting against the wooden dowel edge. The photo frame stands upright displaying your image, and the groove holds your pen, glasses, or mug nearby.
