Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Measure your room to confirm space for a king-size loft bed (approx. 76" x 80") and ensure ceiling height allows for comfortable use underneath.
2. Cut 2x6 lumber to create four vertical posts approximately 60 inches tall for the bed height.
3. Build the bed frame by cutting 2x6s to frame the mattress area (76" x 80"), securing with wood screws and wood glue.
4. Add 2x4 cross supports inside the frame at 12-inch intervals for mattress support.
5. Cut plywood into slats or use full sheets for mattress base, securing onto the frame.
6. Attach the posts to the bed frame corners, reinforcing with metal corner braces.
7. Construct bookcases by assembling boxes from 3/4" plywood sized to fit the platform edges (e.g., 12" deep, full length of bed sides) and attach them securely to the frame sides.
8. Build a desk frame using 2x4s sized to fit underneath the bed width-wise or length-wise based on preference.
9. Attach a plywood desktop onto the desk frame, securing with screws and L-brackets for support.
10. Optional: Install drawer slides and build simple drawers or shelves for additional storage.
11. Sand all surfaces smooth and fill any holes with wood filler.
12. Paint or stain all wooden surfaces as desired; allow to dry completely.
13. Install safety railings made from 1x4 lumber around the bed platform edges.
14. Assemble the loft bed in the room, securing legs to the floor or wall studs using brackets for stability.
15. Add finishing touches like cable management for gaming setup and arrange desk and bookcases.
16. Test the stability and safety of the entire structure before use.
