Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Measure and cut plywood panels to build the cabinet frame: two sides (90cm tall x 60cm deep), top and bottom panels (150cm x 60cm), and a vertical center divider (90cm x 60cm).
2. Assemble the cabinet frame by attaching the sides to the bottom panel using wood screws and glue. Attach the center divider in the middle to create two columns.
3. Cut plywood pieces for the drawer boxes: each drawer front approx. 23cm wide x 30cm high x 55cm deep (adjust slightly for clearance).
4. Assemble the drawer boxes using wood glue and screws, ensuring smooth edges.
5. Install drawer slides inside the cabinet and on drawers, then insert the drawers into their respective columns.
6. Cut solid wood boards for the butcher block top to 150cm x 60cm. Arrange edge grain boards side by side, glue them together and clamp tightly.
7. Once dry, sand the butcher block top smooth starting with 120 grit, then 220 grit sandpaper.
8. Apply food-safe oil or wood finish to the butcher block top, allowing it to soak and dry according to product instructions.
9. Attach the butcher block top to the cabinet frame securely with screws from underneath.
10. Sand and paint or finish the cabinet frame as desired.
11. Attach drawer handles or knobs.
12. Final sanding and touch-ups as needed, then place the island in your kitchen.
