Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut a 6x6 inch square from the cardboard for the base of the slot machine.
2. Cut two 6x4 inch rectangles from cardboard for the side walls and glue them upright on opposite edges of the base.
3. Cut a 6x3 inch piece to serve as the front panel; cut a rectangular window in the center (about 4x1.5 inches) to display the slot reels.
4. Attach the front panel between the two side walls, leaving a small gap underneath for the lever mechanism.
5. Create three slot reels by cutting three cardboard strips (about 1.5x4 inches each). Wrap colored paper with printed slot symbols around each strip and tape/glue the ends to form cylinders.
6. Thread a wooden dowel through the center of each reel to act as an axle. Secure reels on the side walls so they can spin freely.
7. Place the reels behind the front window so the symbols are visible.
8. For the lever, tape a medium rubber band vertically on one side wall, anchoring it at top and bottom.
9. Attach a wooden dowel or skewer horizontally through the rubber band near the bottom, with a bead or button glued at the end to form a handle.
10. When you pull the lever down, the rubber band tension will spin the reels slightly. Release lever to stop.
11. Decorate the exterior with paint or markers to resemble a classic slot machine.
12. Test the lever and reels, adjusting rubber band tension or reel fit as needed for smooth operation.
