1. Clean the wooden tabletop thoroughly and let it dry completely.
2. Lightly sand the wooden surface with medium grit sandpaper to remove any roughness, then finish with fine grit for smoothness.
3. Wipe off sanding dust with a clean cloth.
4. Apply a coat of outdoor wood primer or sealer evenly on the wooden surface to protect it from moisture. Let it dry as per manufacturer instructions.
5. Apply 2-3 coats of outdoor polyurethane or marine-grade spar varnish, allowing drying time and lightly sanding between coats for a durable finish.
6. Once the protective finish is fully dry, plan the tile layout on the tabletop, aligning the 30x90 cm tiles to cover the 90x90 cm surface (expect some cutting or adjusting since tile length exceeds table width).
7. Use a pencil and measuring tape to mark any necessary cuts on tiles for a perfect fit.
8. Carefully cut tiles with a tile cutter or suitable tool.
9. Apply waterproof tile adhesive evenly on the wooden tabletop using a notched trowel.
10. Place tiles onto the adhesive, using tile spacers to maintain even gaps.
11. Press tiles firmly and allow adhesive to set as per instructions (usually 24 hours).
12. Mix grout according to package instructions and apply it between tiles using a rubber grout float.
13. Remove excess grout with the float and clean tile surfaces with a damp sponge.
14. Let grout cure fully (follow manufacturer’s recommended time).
15. Optionally, apply silicone sealant around the edges where tiles meet the table base to prevent water ingress.
16. Allow all materials to cure before using the table outdoors.
17. Maintain periodically by cleaning and resealing the wood and grout as needed.
