Retractable Wooden Pallet Gate for Doorways

Retractable Wooden Pallet Gate for Doorways

Create a retractable gate using wooden pallet slats mounted on a simple sliding track system for doorways. This project uses common materials and basic tools to build a functional barrier that can easily retract when not in use.

Intermediate 4 hours $30
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Disassemble the wooden pallet carefully to obtain clean slats.
2. Measure the doorway width and height to determine gate size.
3. Cut pallet slats to match the height of the gate.
4. Sand all wooden pieces thoroughly to remove splinters and smooth surfaces.
5. Lay out the slats side by side and attach them to two horizontal wooden strips (top and bottom rails) using wood screws, forming a flat gate panel.
6. Attach drawer slides or sliding door tracks to the top and bottom rails of the gate.
7. Mount the matching parts of the sliding mechanism inside the door frame, ensuring smooth movement.
8. Test the gate by sliding it open and closed; make adjustments as necessary.
9. Optionally, stain or paint the gate to protect the wood and improve appearance.
10. Install a latch or magnetic catch on the side opposite the sliding mechanism to keep the gate closed when needed.
