Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Plan and mark the 12ft by 22ft pergola area in your backyard.
2. Dig holes for four 4x4 posts at each corner, at least 3ft deep.
3. Pour concrete footing with gravel base into holes and insert galvanized post anchors; allow to cure.
4. Attach 4x4 posts to anchors and ensure they are plumb.
5. Fasten 2x8 beams along the perimeter to connect posts securely using lag bolts.
6. Install 2x8 rafters spaced evenly across the beams.
7. Cover rafters with waterproof roofing felt.
8. Nail slate roofing tiles onto rafters, overlapping properly for water runoff.
9. Mark and build the stone fireplace base and walls using mortar and stone veneer in a suitable corner inside or adjacent to the pergola.
10. Install firebrick lining and metal firebox insert inside the fireplace.
11. Allow mortar to fully cure according to instructions.
12. Stain or seal all wooden elements of the pergola to protect from weather.
13. Clean up the area and enjoy your new outdoor space.
