Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the wood boards to size: two 48" lengths for the bench seat and bottom shelf, four 18" lengths for the legs, and support pieces (two 44" and two 10" for frame supports).
2. Sand all pieces thoroughly with 120 grit, then finish with 220 grit for a smooth surface.
3. Assemble the rectangular frame for the bench seat using the 44" and 10" support pieces, attaching with wood glue and 2" screws.
4. Attach the legs to the frame corners using 2" screws and wood glue, ensuring they are flush and square.
5. Attach the bottom shelf (48" board) between the legs about 4" from the floor with 2" screws for added stability and storage.
6. Fix the bench seat board to the frame using a piano hinge on one long side to create a lift-up lid for storage.
7. Sand any rough edges and wipe off dust.
8. Apply wood stain evenly with a cloth or brush and let dry according to the product instructions.
9. Apply two coats of clear finish for protection, sanding lightly between coats with 220 grit.
10. Let the bench dry completely before use.
11. Optionally, add felt pads under legs to protect flooring.
