Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut six identical rectangular plates from cardboard or thin craft wood (approx. 6x3 inches).
2. Using the ruler and pencil, mark evenly spaced holes (~0.5 inches from one short edge) along one long side of each plate. Each hole should align so plates can pivot around the dowels.
3. Insert wooden skewers through these holes to connect the plates in a fan formation. Each skewer connects two plates at corresponding holes, allowing them to pivot open and close.
4. Fix the first plate's end securely to the first skewer so it acts as a base; the other plates should be free to pivot.
5. Attach a Velcro or nylon strap to the back of the first plate to wrap around your forearm. Secure with glue and reinforce as needed.
6. Make a small hole near the pivot end on the last plate to attach a thin wire or string.
7. Attach the other end of the wire to a plastic button or bottle cap mounted on the first plate, acting as the activation button.
8. Attach a small spring or rubber band between the button and the first plate to return the plates to the closed position after expansion.
9. Test the mechanism: pressing the button should pull the wire, causing the plates to fan open; releasing should allow the spring/rubber band to close the plates.
10. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper and reinforce all joints with extra glue for durability.
11. Adjust strap tightness and test wearability and shield stability during airsoft play.
