Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the main board into two pieces: one 24" x 6" (front panel) and one 24" x 2" (hidden compartment base).
2. Cut four 1" x 2" strips to create a frame inside the main shelf board: two 22" for the length and two 6" for the width.
3. Assemble the frame by attaching the 1" x 2" strips with wood glue and screws into a rectangular box shape that will serve as the hidden compartment.
4. Attach the 24" x 2" base piece to the bottom of the frame with glue and screws, forming the compartment floor.
5. Attach the front panel (24" x 6") to the frame's front with screws from inside the compartment to keep fasteners hidden.
6. Sand all surfaces smooth, fill screw holes with wood filler, and sand again after drying.
7. Paint or stain the shelf as desired; apply primer first if painting.
8. Attach the magnetic push latch or small magnet inside the compartment to allow the front panel to open slightly when pressed.
9. Mount the shelf on the wall using wall anchors and screws, ensuring it is level and secure.
10. Place small items inside the hidden compartment and use the shelf to display décor on top.
