Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Gather wooden clothes pins and clean any dust off them.
2. Cut cardstock into small rectangles about 1" x 1.5" to fit one side of a clothes pin.
3. On one side of the cardstock pieces, write an emotion or behavior word (e.g., angry, overwhelmed, restless).
4. On the reverse side, write a corresponding calming plan or action (e.g., take deep breaths, count to 10, ask for a hug).
5. Glue each cardstock piece onto either side of the clothes pin so that when clipped, the emotion word is visible on one side and the plan on the other.
6. Use permanent markers or paint pens to decorate the clips with calming colors or simple drawings.
7. Optionally, seal the cardstock with clear tape or Mod Podge for durability.
8. Introduce the clips to your child and explain how to use them to 'pause' and choose a calming plan when feelings arise.
