Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Measure and cut your pine boards to create the tabletop (combine 4 boards side by side to reach desired width).
2. Arrange the boards flat side by side and apply wood glue between edges to join them.
3. Clamp the boards tightly and allow the glue to dry for at least 1 hour.
4. Sand the glued tabletop thoroughly, starting with 120 grit and finishing with 220 grit sandpaper for a smooth surface.
5. Attach the legs: mark positions on the underside of the tabletop at each corner, 1 inch inset from edges.
6. Pre-drill holes through the legs and into the tabletop to avoid splitting the wood.
7. Securely fasten the legs with 2 1/2" wood screws and add corner braces if desired for extra stability.
8. Apply wood stain evenly using brush or rag, then let dry according to product instructions.
9. Once stain is dry, apply 2-3 coats of clear polyurethane for protection, sanding lightly between coats.
10. Let the finish cure fully before using your rustic coffee table.
