Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Measure and mark four side pieces: two 4" x 3" and two 3" x 3" for the box sides.
2. Cut the wood pieces according to the measurements using a handsaw or jigsaw.
3. Cut one 4" x 4" piece for the bottom of the box.
4. Sand all pieces thoroughly with 120 grit, then finish with 220 grit for smooth edges.
5. Apply wood glue along the edges of the bottom piece and attach the four sides to form a box. Clamp or hold until dry as per glue instructions.
6. If needed, fill any gaps with wood filler and sand smooth once dry.
7. Cut a 4" x 4" piece for the lid.
8. Attach the lid to the back side of the box using the small brass hinges.
9. Attach the brass latch or clasp to the front of the box and lid to secure it.
10. Optionally, apply wood stain or non-toxic paint to decorate the box. Allow to dry.
11. Seal with a clear water-based sealant for durability, especially if stained. Allow to dry completely.
12. Wipe the box clean and it is ready to gift or use.
